چکیده

Evoked potential was recorded by needle electrode from the oculomotor nucleus in decerebrate cats, following electrical stimulation of the inferior oblique nerve. The evoked potential was usually triphasic, but complex potential with the second and third negative leaves, or with long latency negative waves, was incidentally recorded depending upon the position of the recording electrode. In the present paper, an attempt was made to clarify in detail, the physiological properties of the evoked complex potential. By changing the intensity or frequency of the inferior oblique nerve stimulation, the complsx potentials could be classified into 2 types: (1) those produced by firing of the motoneurons by antidromically conducted impulses on the efferent fibers, and (2) those produced by transsynaptic firing of the motoneurons by orthodromically conducted impulses on the afferent fibers. As shown by the results of repeated stimulation of the trigeminal nerve and severance of the trigeminal nerve trunk in the middle cranial fossa, the inhibitory effect of the trigeminal nerve on the oculomotor nucleus xoas demonstrated. Also, the possible role of the trigeminal nerve in exerting an inhibitory force on the oculomotor neurons through the internuncial neurons was discussed.

Midbrain electrical fields produced by stimulation of the muscle branches of the oculomotor nerve.

Evoked potentials were recorded from the oculomotor nucleus in decerebrate cats following electrical stimulation of individual muscle branches of the oculomotor nerve. These potentials were usually triphasic but other more complex potentials were evoked depending on the positions of the recording electrode. Equipotential contour maps of the evoked electrical fields were plotted at different tim...

A Rare Presentation of Isolated Oculomotor Nerve Palsy due to Multiple Sclerosis in a Child

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory, demyelinating, neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) of unknown etiology. Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy is found rarely in children with MS. We present a case of MS in 10-year-old boy, who had bilateral ptosis associated with medial gaze restriction. The extraocular muscle examination demonstrated bilateral adduction pa...

Cerebellar influence on the evoked potential of the oculomotor nucleus induced by stimulation of the oculomotor nerve branches in the cat.

Cerebellar influence on the oculomotor evoked potential was investigated. Bilateral decerebration was performed in 25 adult cats by thalamocollicular section under chloralose anesthesia. The evoked potential in the oculomotor nucleus by the electrical stimulation of the isolated medial rectus nerve was inhibited by the repeated electrical stimulation of a restricted area of the cerebellar corte...

Presence of prejunctional D2-dopaminoceptors and α2-adrenoceptors on the cholinergic nerve of the common bile duct of guinea pig

On most adrenergic and cholinergic nerve terminals, prejunctional α-adrenoceptors belonging to the α2-subtype have been identified. Activation of these receptors will decrease the release of norepinephrine. It has been reported that several isolated tissue preparations contain prejunctional dopamine receptors, the stimulation of which inhibits neurotransmission. It has remained uncertain whethe...

MEDIAN NERVE STIMULATION PO TENTIATES THE MU SCLE RESPONSES TO TRANS C RANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION

Motor responses evoked by transcranial magnetic stimulation OMS) or transcranial electrical stimulation (TCS) can be facilitated by a prior conditioning stimulus to an afferent nerve. Two facilitation periods are described short (SI), when the nerve stimulus is given near 0 to 10 ms after cranial stimulation, and long (LI), when nerve stimulation is given 25-60 ms before the cranial stimula...
